A Prayer for The National Day of Prayer

O Lord my God, by reading, two hearts gather in the name of Jesus Christ. Because we believe Your Holy Word, we know this moment You are in the midst of us and we trust Your promise for the prayer of a righteous man to avail much.

As You, O Lord, said to King Solomon, if we truly humble ourselves, turn from our wicked ways, pray and seek Your face, then will You hear from heaven, forgive our sin and heal our land. (II Chronicles 7:14)

Lord God Almighty, our land, our nation, does need healing. Nevertheless, it is the hearts of the people that need changed the most. Some of us honor You with our lips, but our hearts are far from You. Other hearts are clothed in filthy rags and don’t even know it. Most go about doing that which is right in their own heart, not realizing this end is the way of death and destruction.


Father God, open our eyes to the evil of our ways and help us to return and stand fast for Truth. Purify your church, “For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?” (1 Peter 4:17)

Then, glorious Lord, give us a love for the lost. Embolden your children to clearly speak Your name, bringing the light of the glory of God into every conversation. With changed hearts, come changed public policies, regulations and laws, resulting in a healed land.

“O my God, incline Your ear…for we do not present our supplications before You because of our righteous deeds, but because of Your great mercies. O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for Your own sake, my God, for…Your people…called by Your name.” (Daniel 9:18-19)

For President Obama, O Lord, we pray You will truly bring him to his knees today in repentance. Cause him to seek Your face for his every decision. Change the heart of our President, his Cabinet, the Supreme Court, Congress, the State and local officials, so their voting and decisions will be in accordance with Your holy word.

Father, we pray none be permitted to hinder Your divine will for America. Lord Jesus, if there are still many years until you return, then guide, direct, lead and heal us in righteousness.

But if not, “Maranatha”, come quickly Lord Jesus.

Amen and amen.

Whatever Happened to Live and Let Live?

         I’ve always loved the movie The Hiding Place —Hollywood’s version of the life of Christian author and speaker Corrie Ten Boom and her family. The Ten Boom’s were arrested for hiding and helping Jews during the German occupation of Holland in World War II. Betrayed by Hollanders who prided themselves in obeying German law, the Ten Boom family spent several years in concentration camps. God graciously rescued Corrie, but most of her family died there.         More recently, I found another movie, The Zookeeper’s Wife , a true account of Antonina and Jan Zabinski, who also hid Jews when the Germans occupied Poland. Yad Vashem in Israel aptly recognized them with the “Righteous Among The Nations” honor.          I love Israel. And it breaks my heart to see the unquenched resurgence of anti-Semitism in New York City. In relationships, when there is a rift and reconciliation has occurred, isn’t there a lifting of your spirit, joy in your heart, and an overall good feeling? This was the resident attitude of Bethlehem in Ruth 1:19-22. Because they repented, Bethlehemites were now harvesting barley.
