WHAT IS TRUTH? Part 2

Image
Spiritual darkness hung in the Praetorium like a dense fog. Black wisps of demonic hordes flitted about and entered the minds of the Romans. Heavy oppression compressed the lungs while heaving chests squeezed out air, and eyes clouded over with great deception.      Pilate rose from his seat of judgment and strolled toward Jesus, shaking his head at the insanity of the bogus trial, and this condemned One’s refusal to defend Himself. “He only mentioned truth ,” he mumbled, “and bearing witness to truth .” His brows furrowed. Nearing the place where Jesus stood, Pilate looked Him in the eye and said in a condescending tone, “ What is truth ? ”   Such an amazing question! And, one we need to know how to answer because TRUTH has been deemed relative for quite some time now. In other words, your truth may not be my truth. But this thought is just a regurgitation of Israel’s sad state of affairs, “In those days there was no king in Israel; e...

The Gospel Paradox

Have you ever thought of the Gospel as a paradox—a statement that seems to contradict itself?   In Sunday school, we are studying the book of Matthew, and one verse, in particular, jumped out. Jesus said, “All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him .” [1]   Hmm… only Jesus truly knows the Father, and He alone chooses those to whom He will reveal Him ?   Immediately, God’s Holy Spirit flooded my mind with accompanying Scripture. But no one can know the Father unless the Son reveals Him? A paradox , right?   But it continues because, in the very next verse, Jesus said, “It is written in the prophets,...

This Man

Image
To you, who is Jesus? To the typical, unbelieving man on the street, Jesus may be a good man, a teacher, an avatar of the divine, or even a myth invented by man to control the masses. I can’t remember where I heard this last comment, but it saddens me. I feel the anger and cynicism behind it and I sense the person’s hatred of anyone they believe is telling them what they can or cannot do. The problem with the unbeliever’s conclusions about Jesus is their conscience; that innate awareness of right and wrong. They can’t explain it or get rid of it. They’re convicted by a law they refuse to acknowledge and it angers them. Yet, the only reason we know right from wrong is because God wrote it. The Almighty, Triune God set the Standard and no matter what we do there’s no getting around it.
