The Signet Ring

Image
https://www.neatie.com/Signet-Rings- "March is often recognized as a month of extremes and a battle between two seasons: winter and spring… AccuWeather  meteorologists say." [1]   A battle between two extremes? Winter and spring, cold and heat, but is there more?   Spiritually, March has always been a battle, not only of seasons but of good versus evil. This portion of our year sees so much the enemy of our soul hates. Take the "jolly Jewish holiday of Purim…celebrated every year on the 14th of the Hebrew month of Adar (late winter/early spring).  Purim  2024 begins on  Saturday night, March 23 , and continues through  Sunday, March 24 …" [2]   Purim, meaning lots, comes from the Book of Esther . "It commemorates the (Divinely orchestrated) salvation of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian empire from Haman's plot "to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews, young and old, infants, and women, in a singl...

THE SON OF GOD’S LOVE

Image
Photo by  Robert Linder  on  Unsplash   In our 10:30 am small group class on Sunday mornings, we have been studying the book of Colossians. Last October, when I began preparing Colossians, the first thing that caught my attention was a phrase in Colossians 1:13 – “ the Son of His love .” . The NKJV renders verse thirteen as “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love .”   Other Bible versions translate the phrase differently, saying, “his dear Son; beloved Son; or the Son he loves.” And truly, the Father does love the Son, for He said many times, “This is  My   beloved   Son , in whom I am well pleased.” [1] Nevertheless, the wording of NKJV intrigued me—stopped me in my tracks, so to speak—and my mind flooded with questions. “What exactly does “the Son of His love” mean? Is it only that God the Father loves God the Son? Or does it go much deeper?”   I was positive there ...

But We See Jesus - Part One

Image
https://sewingdivine.com I n the past weeks and months, we’ve said goodbye to some very precious loved ones, and our hearts are grieved. Although we know it’s part of life and none of us are guaranteed tomorrow, the seeming finality, loss, and loneliness are overwhelming. The hurt of watching the consequence of Adam’s sin ravish the mind and body, bring disease, and its ultimate penalty—death—crushes us. And we’re left with an ache in our soul that just won’t go away.   Some deal with their looming last day by performing death-defying acts to “cheat” death like it’s a person seeking to drag them to the grave. Others strive to thwart it in different ways, and now, even the elite super-minds have joined the game.   Transhumanism and A.I. (artificial intelligence) are progressing at alarming rates. In fact, Elon Musk and others have called for a six-month moratorium on A.I. development because of the unknown dangers. But transhumanism, “…the merging of...

Good OR Bad News?

“I have good news and bad news. Which do you want first?”   Maybe you’re thinking, “I only want good news. I’m tired of the bad.” I fully understand. So, here's my good news:  God gave us the bad news first. What?   Yes, Almighty God established a LAW —man broke it— SIN entered the world and brought a penalty— DEATH —both physical and spiritual. Physical bodies age and eventually return to dust. For Adam, that took 930 years. However, his spiritual death—separation from this Holy God—began immediately. Isaiah 59:2 says, “But your iniquities have separated you from your God ; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.”   That’s a lot of bad news. And  I know you’ve heard it all before. But please stick with me. I do have a point. You see, if there were no good news to follow the bad, we would be doomed and rightly proclaim, “…Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!” [1]   Thankfully, God followed H...
