How Are You Feeling After the Midterms?

Are you grieved over the outcome of the U.S. elections? Do you feel punched in the gut? Are you wondering what the LORD God Almighty was doing by allowing the Dems to have control?

I was throwing a silent temper tantrum until a friend corrected my thinking. Lou said she was praying for revival more than ever now. Immediately, I felt relief and agreed that was best. But I also realized God used her words to chastise me. Yet I’m not sure I was humbled enough.

“LORD,” I prayed, “I’m sorry, but I don’t understand.” Instantly, He brought clarity and spoke Jeremiah 17:5a to my heart. “Thus says the LORD: ‘Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength…’” What? I couldn’t believe it. Had I been trusting in President Trump, his cabinet, and the House and Senate Republican majority to save America MORE than I was trusting the LORD?

I must have been, but how could that be? I didn’t mean to trust in man more. Thankfully, God knows my heart.[1] Still, I was guilty of sin, and the remaining words of verse 5 cut like a knife: “…whose heart departs from the LORD.”

I gasped. “Had I departed from the LORD?” I didn’t think so, but I was feeling condemned as though I had. The Holy Spirit spoke swiftly. This wasn’t condemnation, since I walked in His Spirit.[2] It was conviction. God had already told us He doesn’t share His glory.[3] Therefore, we should never give glory belonging to Almighty God to another. This time, I prayed more wholeheartedly, “LORD…I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”[4]

In those moments, another text dinged my phone. It was Zoe's text I opened. “Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is the LORD.” (Jeremiah 17:7). This was God’s response to my repentance.

My head instantly bowed. “Thank You, Father. I don't know what You are doing, but I trust You completely. All my faith is in You.”

Still, I wanted more of what Jeremiah spoke, so I could better understand why God sent it. In verse 8, He said those who do trust Him will be like trees growing beside a river. The trees won’t fear heat or drought since their roots spread out like an anchor, and they drink in hydration and nourishment. Their leaves remain green, and they will continually bear fruit.”[5]

Bearing fruit was Jesus’s command to believers. It’s the most important thing we can do. And because the Triune Godhead, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, is our River of living water, our leaf does not wither, and neither do we die.[6]

We must not trust in man, but pray hard for revival like Lou said, and sow the seed of God’s Word all the days the LORD has allotted to us. And friends, it shouldn't matter who hears God's Word. We should sow no matter the condition of the soil, meaning the heart, on which the seed would fall.

God will till their soil if their heart is willing.

Rest assured, the Most High God is not wringing His hands over this election’s outcome. He knows what He is doing. TRUST Him with all your heart. Don’t lean on what you think you know.[7]

The LORD will bring good out of what seems to be an election tragedy. Not only because He loves you and you love Him, but also because He’s holding you. He has called YOU according to His purpose, and He will direct your path. [8]

RAPTURE could be close.[9]

Stay faithful, my friends, and pray.
